 Routes of Gokyo Lakes Trek

The gateway to the Himalayas, Lukla, a small town in the Khumbu region, is the starting point of trekking. Walking on the trail would be the best acclimatization procedure for the trek to Phakding. Further acclimatization occurs once you have reached the Namche Bazar, also famous as the Sherpa hub.

The beautifully roofed houses and amazing hustling of the Sherpa people in a small town for shopping would be a unique experience for you. Peregrine Treks knows that the terrain is steep and strenuous, requiring maximum acclimatization. So, we take you to the Everest View Hotel, the highest-located hotel in the world for hiking, as part of your preparation for the journey to the Gokyo Lakes.

The stunning views of the snow-capped mountains and surrounding geographical landscapes are seen from the Everest View Hotel. It would take your breath away, and you would instantly be in love with the beauty of Everest Gokyo Lakes Trek after you have been acclimatized in the happening town of Namche, the trekking to the Gokyo Ri.

It takes serious momentum passing by places like Dole and Machhermo. About 4790 m in height, the five lakes would remind you of any fairy tale location. The glacial lake resides smiling beside the tallest mountain in the world Mount Everest (8848 m). The water in the lakes looks pristine and pure. So, the aura around the place would make any non-creative and non-romantic personnel into a romantic poet.

All the pain during the Gokyo Lakes Trek up to the lakes remains the sweet memory of these beautiful lakes. The trip to the foothill of Mount Everest and taking a sip of coffee on the banks of these clear water lakes is worth millions, and the memory would last in your soul for eternity.

Hence, relish Gokyo Valley Trek’s adventure and thrill in your life with the experienced team of Peregrine to this pristine land and dart the great memory in your soul forever.

We will meet our other team after our arrival upon Lukla (2860m). On the same day, we started trekking for the Phakding village. The trek lasts for 3-4 hours, and we witness the sacred mountain Khumbila(5751m) from the town of Cheplung, we come across the Dudh Koshi river, and a gradual walk leads us to Phakding village.

From Phakding village, we can have a sight of Kusum Kangraru Mountain. The town in the north valley of Lukla has several quality lodges, hotels, and guest houses for tourists and trekkers. We will stay there for the night and the day after, continuing our Gokyo Lakes Trek.

  • Day 03: Phakding to Namche 3440m 5/6 Hours Overnight At Lodge

We will start heading towards Namche Bazaar just after our breakfast. This is the day; we become evident in the promising exquisiteness of the mountains.

We pass along lovely pine forests and revealed land. Cross a steel suspension bridge up above the glacial river, Dudh Koshi. Also, trek along Bhote Koshi, a sister of the Koshi family. As we embark on our journey, mountains like Mt. Nupla (5885m) and Kongde Ri (6093m) rise to give us a sight of themselves.

Furthermore, we cross Kusum Khola and witness Mt. Kusum Kangraru to the east, the head of the valley. We come across some fields of donkeys and yaks loaded with trek gears and trading goods.

If you haven’t seen the Mani stones, you’re about to be addressed to the holy mantra of Buddhists and Brahmins, “Om Mani Padme Hum,” which translates to “Hail to the jewel in the lotus.” We also see Mt. Thamserku (6808m) at a turn of the trail. We cross the Monjo pass; we enter the Sagarmatha National Park, where we can look forward to rich vegetation and wildlife like red pandas, yaks, etc.

Then we commence our ascent to the Sherpa capital, Namche Bazaar. The most crucial trade section for the Tibetans and Sherpas living around the valley. If the weather is just beautiful and we are lucky enough, we might catch our first glimpse of Mt. Everest.

This is an adventure trek, breathtaking and rewarding as well. But this is just the forestage of what is to come. We will rest, relax, and stay overnight in Namche Bazaar.

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

    Essential Information

Fitness Level for Gokyo Lakes Trek

Gokyo Lakes Trek Trek requires a reasonable level of fitness maintained. One must be used for some exercise. However, porters and animals will carry your gear and sleeping bags. So your daily pack will be light, and just the altitude trail can seem a significant issue. We walk daily, and with days, you must feel fit and healthy and push your limits.

We expect our fellow participants to get used to exercising and training hard before the Gokyo Lakes Trek. However, we design our treks equal to every gender or age. We believe that trekking is not a race and a collective trail. So there is equal participation of all the trekkers.

    Travel Insurance

Before commencing the Peregrine Treks, we ensure our participants have enough insurance to cover any misfortunes during the trip. You are welcome to source your insurance and provide this proof 15 days before the trip.

     Purchasing and Local Producers

We try to use local products as much as possible to avoid transportation worldwide. This way, we conserve our ecosystem and also support the local economy at the same time.

    Note:

It is recommended that you buy yourself some extra days. Arrive in Kathmandu a day before the departure date. You can use the extra day to purchase equipment and gear and rest before the grand trial. You are buying yourself some spare time after the trek will cover up if the flight from Lukla to Kathmandu is delayed or canceled due to unfavorable weather. So the extra days will help you not to miss your International flight.

During our trip, there may be various political, climatic, and other factors beyond our control and have a chance of altering our itineraries. Although the alteration may not happen significantly, the leader will decide the best alternative considering the group’s interests, if any modification is necessary. If any change is made, we ensure that it has a minor effect on our itineraries and plans. However, we cannot be responsible for the result of delays in such cases.

Flight Delays in Kathmandu and Lukla

Lukla Airport is situated in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains. Therefore, a flight taking off and landing are considered difficult sometimes. The weather is very unpredictable and can change every few hours resulting in flight delays and cancellations.

Twin Otter and Dornier planes are the main transportation from the airstrip at Lukla. Their service is very much reliable. However, if any delays or cancellations occur due to the weather conditions, we will help you incorporate a helicopter that can carry 4-6 persons at a time. This can cost an extra US $500 to $3000 per person, depending upon the number of passengers. The participant must pay the cost at the time of service.

Later, it can be submitted for reimbursement through a travel insurance company. US dollars, cash, or credit cards (Master Cards, Visa Cards, and American Express) are accepted for the helicopter service. All payments require a 4% bank fee, which goes directly to the bank.

The helicopter can fly if the visibility is 1500 or higher. Twin Otter and Dornier fly if the clarity is 5000 or higher per Nepal Civil Aviation rules. The helicopters are not operated if the weather is extreme and visibility exceeds 1500. We will schedule the flights to the nearest date available in such cases. If the weather worsens daily, we will provide you with alternative trek options.

    Altitude Acclimatization

Trailing up to 2500 m can increase the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Altitude Acclimatization is the key to avoiding acute mountain sickness. Make a slow climb to help your body acclimatize. Drink plenty of liquid-like garlic soup that helps the body with the process. Drugs like acetazolamide (also called Diamox) help the body maintain the amount of oxygen. However, our trip itineraries are designed keeping in mind the time for acclimatization of the human body.

A typical day in Gokyo Lakes Trek

Most days in Gokyo Lakes Trek, start early to catch the clear weather and the best views. This is also when the villagers will be doing their daily chores, so we engage more with the local culture. We wake up at 6 AM; treat ourselves to a hot cup of tea followed by hot water for washing and shaving. Then we pack the gear for the trek. A hearty breakfast will be served at the tables. Then, we trek for about 2-3 hours, depending upon the distance to the lodge full of scenic beauties and our destination.

During the Gokyo Lakes Trek, the trekker can stop and talk to the villagers, take photographs, linger around and enjoy the magic of the beautiful flowers and fauna. Or you can enjoy the gloriousness of the mountains. We suggest that you remain within sight of the support crew, though.

We have lunch where we can please our eyes along with our bellies. Afterward, we continued our trek and tried to get to the lodge by 4 PM. Then we can spend time reading, talking to fellow partners, or walking in the village. Later, we had our dinner, followed by our guide instructing us about the next day’s program. Before sleep, time can be used to read, hear the Sherpa stories, or jam with fellow members from the trek.
