Overview of Ganesh Himal Trek

Ganesh Himal Trek is one of the best trekking trails in the Ganesh Himal Region. Ganesh Himal trails are gaining momentum in terms of popularity. From grassy meadows to the high altitude pass and from lowland Nepalese civilization to the Himalayan people’s lifestyle and the Himalayan ranges’ enchanting views, this trekking is the most mystical and vibrant in Nepal in comparison to other popular trekking trails of Nepal.

Ganesh Himal Trek starts with the bus drive from Kathmandu to Somdang, the small Tamang village. The place is famous in Nepal as the mine of zinc these days. Ganesh Himal Trek is very happening because of the hydropower project being installed in the region. From Somdang, the Ganesh Himal trek follows towards the Pangsang Pass. The pass is visually attractive because of the green pastured hilltop adjacent to the Himalayan range.  The trail then moves towards Ganesh Himal Base Camp.

Ganesh Himal Trek Highlights

  • Cross-inhabitant ethnic groups of Nepal, i.e., Gurung, Tamang, and Chhetri Village
  • Stunning Mountain view of Langtang and Ganesh Himalayan range with Mount Manaslu
  • Terrace Rice Field and dense forest with different flora and fauna
  • Feel the adventure by crossing a 4100-meter pass
  • Sightseeing in UNESCO World Heritage sites

This unique and virgin Himalaya is equally aesthetic as its name is related to the sacred god of Hinduism, Lord Ganesha. People believe that the shape of the Ganesh Himal resembles that of the head of the Lord. Once you have savored the delights of this magnificent mountain, you will descend toward Rajgang Kharka. In 4 days, you will be in the small yet consuming town on the banks of the Budi Gandaki river. The River lies on the border of Dhading and the Gorkha district of Nepal. These villages offer enigmatic and varied experiences. The Chhetri, Brahmin, Gurung, and other ethnic people will encounter them on the way.

The Tented accommodation or the accommodation shared with the locals helps to enhance the small group adventure tour in the Ganesh Himal Trek. From Aarughat, you will be taken to Kathmandu, passing by Dhading Besi via a rural postal road. The road trip from Aarughat to Dhading Besi is equally captivating because of the stylistic serpent road. You will cross paddy fields, rivers, and forests uphill and downhill.

    Essential Information

    Trek difficulty

The Ganesh Himal Trek is an adventure that is truly accessible to all. Whether you are a skilled hiker, or a complete beginner, the grade of the trek is moderate to adventurous.

The journey is much easier with no altitude sickness problems like those on higher altitude treks. The trekking route is full of spectacular mountain views, lush valleys, and vibrant culture, making it an excellent way to experience the beauty of the Nepal Himalayas.

This incredible journey starts in the low-lying, warm countryside and slowly climbs in altitude as you traverse lush green hills. As you wander through this paradise, you can take a moment to acclimate to the ever-changing environment.

The only challenge that awaits is the steep ascent to the summit of Pangsang Bhanjyang-La, followed by a long descent. But, with a leisurely pace and the opportunity to appreciate the breathtaking vistas of the snow-capped mountains and verdant valleys, you can make the journey without difficulty.

    Best time for the trek

The Ganesh Himal Trek is a year-round adventure, but it truly shines in spring and autumn. The hills are clothed with lush greens from March to May (Spring), and from September to early December (Autumn), the colorful foliage creates a captivating contrast to the snowy mountain peaks. Temperatures during these times are pleasant, ranging from 20°C to 25°C. A trekking guide will ensure a safe and enjoyable journey, as the trails are marked and easy to follow.

However, these months are the months of peak trekking season, so pre-planning is recommended to guarantee the availability of accommodation, guides, and porters for your journey.

The Ganesh Himal Trek is also open for exploration during the Summer Monsoon, from June to August. Local lodges offer discounts, and tourists will far less obstruct the path. However, visitors should know that leeches, muddy trails, landslides, and foggy views are possible hurdles. The trek is also open during January and February for those not afraid of the cold. During these months, heavy snowfall can be expected in the Pangsang Bhanjyang-La region, so visitors must come prepared.

For those eager to embark on the journey even in the frigid winter months, it is imperative to take heed of preventive measures and bring all the essentials to ensure a safe and gratifying trekking experience. Our team will be on hand to provide whatever assistance is needed when going on a winter trek.

    Trek Safety Tips

Setting off on this extraordinary venture will take you through verdant valleys and rugged mountains, requiring you to be physically fit and determined. Each day of the expedition involves four to five hours of daytime hikes. Though the chances of getting altitude sickness are lower, it is still recommended to be prepared by drinking at least 3 liters of water daily to stay refreshed. Additionally, to accustom your body to the elevation, try to keep your smoking and boozing to a minimum.

If you want to adjust to the altitudes, Diamox – may be an option. But be aware that this drug can mask signs of acute mountain sickness, so be extra mindful. Also, remember that Diamox is a diuretic, which may mean you have to increase your hydration levels.

As you head upwards, take it at your own pace! A gradual ascent rate is ideal for your body to adapt to higher altitudes. Prepare for the challenge ahead by partaking in some rigorous physical activity. From running to swimming, lifting weights to spinning and stair-climbing, get your body into top condition to make the most of this remarkable journey.

    One Typical Day

A typical day of Ganesh Himal Trek begins with a hearty breakfast. It is then time to pack up and begin the journey. Depending on the route, most days of trekking will involve a four to six-hour hike on steep inclines and dizzying drops, with breathtaking views and plenty of time to take pictures.

After a few hours of exploring the wild outdoors, you can refuel with a tasty and filling midday meal, followed by a leisurely 1-hour break to rest your mind, body, and soul before continuing your quest. You will spend the afternoon hiking through stunning landscapes and mountain passes, each step bringing a new adventure and each breath bringing a new moment of awe and appreciation.

As the sun slowly sinks, you’ll be welcomed to a cozy local lodge with open arms and a genuine smile. Inside, you’ll be delighted to find the warm glow of home-style comforts, a crackling fire, and a delicious meal waiting for you. After a long day of exploration and discovery, let the night sky and the soothing sounds of nature lull you to sleep while the promise of another fantastic day awaits you.

Ganesh Himal Trek with beloved one

I did this Ganesh Himal Trek with Peregrine Treks in mid-September of 2021. I loved the blend of lots of views of big, snowy mountains with trekking through interesting and remote villages. The people are genuinely delighted (and amazed) that you have made the effort to visit their villages and give you a very warm welcome. On the trek, our guide Mingmar and our porters took care of every aspect ensuring a truly authentic visit to this little-known area.

I highly recommend Peregrine Treks if you are traveling to Nepal for trekking.
